Job Summary

Job Title: Formulation & Analytical Chemist Industrial Biocides

Reports to: Chief Scientific & Regulatory Officer (CSRO)

Location: This position is based in New Jersey and will relocate to Rhode Island within the next 12 months. We would like someone to join us permanently but are also open to considering a 12-month contract if relocation isnt feasible.

Role Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for both formulation development and analytical testing supporting innovation and optimization of our product portfolio across diverse applications in industrial preservation for paints & coatings HI&I and many others.

The Formulation & Analytical Chemist develops tests and optimises innovative biocidal formulations that meet regulatory commercial and performance requirements. This role blends practical laboratory work with analytical rigour and creativity contributing directly to the companys new product pipeline and continuous improvement of existing products.

The chemist also provides analytical support for product registration quality control and troubleshooting - ensuring scientific excellence safety and compliance across all activities

This is a hands-on laboratory role that bridges R&D technical support and quality control contributing directly to the creation of robust compliant and competitive biocidal solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design develop and optimise formulations for biocidal products across multiple applications in line with customer commercial and regulatory priorities.
  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments to assess product stability compatibility performance and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Perform analytical testing (e.g. active content determination stability studies degradation analysis) using techniques such as HPLC GC FTIR UV-Vis or equivalent.
  • Interpret analytical data and provide technical recommendations to improve formulation quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory and Commercial teams to support registration documentation and product claims.
  • Evaluate new raw materials and technologies to enhance performance sustainability and cost efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot formulation or analytical issues providing technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports formulation records and specifications to ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Contribute to product innovation by proposing new formulation approaches aligned with market needs and regulatory trends.
  • Support regulatory submissions and product dossiers with high-quality and reliable information/reports.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Operations and Commercial teams to translate laboratory results into scalable compliant products.
  • Maintain meticulous records of experiments results and formulations in line with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Ensure laboratory safety and compliance with environmental health and safety (EHS) standards.
  • Keep current with advances in formulation chemistry analytical techniques and biocidal technologies

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Masters Degree (MSc) in Organic Chemistry
  • Demonstrated experience in formulation and analytical development ideally within biocides paints & coatings home and personal care or other specialty chemical sectors.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple lab projects under tight deadlines.
  • Extensive experience operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation (e.g. HPLC GC UV-Vis) including method development validation and data interpretation.
  • Proven track record in formulation stability and compatibility testing.

Desirable

  • Background in scale-up or pilot-plant support.
  • Familiarity with global chemical regulations (e.g. EPA EU BPR REACH CLP).
