Job Summary

Job Summary

The Nursing Supervisor oversees and coordinates patient care activities during the assigned shift ensuring safe effective and continuous delivery of nursing services. This role manages diagnostic procedures and surgeries that occur outside regular hours and serves as the administrative representative in the absence of senior nursing leadership. The Nursing Supervisor must maintain a strong working knowledge of medical and legal regulations provide direction to nursing personnel and uphold organizational standards of care professionalism and patient rights.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily indoor environment protected from weather but subject to temperature changes.

  • Potential exposure to infections contagious diseases hazardous materials and medical equipment.

  • Possible interaction with combative or distressed patients.

  • Variable noise levels depending on patient activity and clinical operations.

Physical Demands

Must be able to:

  1. Hear and identify sounds through auditory perception.

  2. Communicate effectively through spoken language.

  3. Use visual acuity to perceive characteristics of objects and environments.

  4. Reach with arms and hands in various directions.

  5. Grasp hold turn or manipulate objects using hands and fingers.

  6. Perceive characteristics such as size temperature texture and shape.

  7. Stoop kneel crouch and crawl as required.

  8. Lift up to 50 pounds independently with frequent lifting/pushing/pulling of up to 25 pounds.

  9. Continuously walk and stand throughout the shift.

  10. Distinguish and identify colors accurately.

  11. Occasionally assist with lifting over 100 pounds using appropriate techniques equipment or team support.

  12. Sit for prolonged periods when necessary.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; evidence of continuing education relevant to nursing supervision.

  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Experience

  • Required: Previous supervisory or management experience in nursing.

  • Preferred: Prior experience specifically as a Nursing Supervisor.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current RN license.

  • IV certification.

  • ACLS PALS TNCC or equivalent trauma training NIMS training and CPI certification.

Equipment & Tools

  • Computers and software systems

  • Photocopier

  • Patient charts

  • Infusion pumps PCA pumps and various medical equipment

Specialized Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of age-specific cultural physical and psychosocial needs of the patient population.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and therapeutically.

  • Highly organized responsible self-motivated and capable of functioning as a role model.

Other

  • Bilingual or EnglishSpanish preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations.
