Job Summary

Vice President of Operations Primary Care & Ambulatory Services
Exempt Full-Time Southfield MI (System-Wide Travel Required)

Position Summary
The Vice President of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for our ambulatory and primary care enterprise overseeing multi-site primary care clinics outpatient specialty practices and virtual care services. This role is accountable for operational performance access financial outcomes quality patient experience and value-based care execution across all outpatient settings.

This leader works closely with physicians APPs site leaders nursing IT HR finance and quality teams to ensure reliable scalable and high-performing care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Translate system strategy into actionable plans annual goals and performance dashboards.
  • Lead multi-site operations to ensure standardized workflows consistent performance and scalability.
  • Assess market opportunities and develop proposals for new sites service lines and care models.

Access Capacity & Growth

  • Optimize scheduling templates and staffing to increase same-day/next-day access.
  • Standardize provider productivity and room utilization benchmarks.
  • Drive growth through community partnerships referral pathways and capacity planning.

Quality Safety & Patient Experience

  • Partner with clinical leaders to ensure compliance with pathways and regulatory standards.
  • Improve quality measures (HEDIS ACO metrics preventive/chronic care).
  • Lead patient experience efforts through service recovery communication training and daily improvement practices.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Own the ambulatory operating budget and drive margin productivity and revenue performance.
  • Partner with Finance on monthly reviews and corrective action plans.
  • Improve payer mix coding and charge capture in collaboration with Revenue Cycle.

Population Health & Value-Based Care

  • Operationalize value-based contracts (ACO MA Medicaid MSSP).
  • Align workflows to drive attribution accuracy care gap closure and ED/readmission reduction.
  • Integrate care management behavioral health pharmacy and social services workflows.

People & Culture

  • Develop and mentor regional leaders and practice managers.
  • Support physician and APP engagement through strong dyad partnerships.
  • Build a culture of accountability safety and continuous improvement.

Technology & Innovation

  • Optimize EHR use (e.g. Athena) including templates documentation and order sets.
  • Use dashboards and analytics to drive decision-making.
  • Lead innovation in telehealth digital access and remote monitoring.

Qualifications

Education

  • Masters degree required (MHA MBA MPH or related).
  • Lean/Six Sigma preferred.

Experience

  • 10 years of progressive healthcare operations leadership; 5 years in senior-level multi-site ambulatory oversight.
  • Experience in multi-state operations preferred.
  • Experience in ACO or value-based environments is a strong plus.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of ambulatory workflows and primary care operations.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication negotiation and change management ability.
  • Proven success leading large-scale operational improvements.
