Description

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the Diesel Technology program under the technical direction of one or more members of the faculty or an instructional administrator prepares laboratories and participates in the delivery of the actual lab instruction and student supervision student assistance and instructor assistance. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission Vision and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the preparation of the diesel lab and equipment to be used for student instruction.
  • Works with students individually or in groups to enhance their learning in the assigned laboratory; provides direct assistance in the use of equipment and materials needed for instruction. Sets up established laboratory experiences for students as required by course outline or faculty direction; evaluates student progress in certain aspects of laboratory work.
  • Responsible for scheduling customer and lab projects taking orders scheduling pickups collecting payments inventory and expenditures.
  • Acquires maintains and inventories shop equipment materials and supplies.
  • Coordinates the support activities of the diesel laboratory; establishes procedures for the use of equipment supplies materials machinery and other items used; ensures faculty and students are oriented to the proper use of the laboratory.
  • Participates in departmental staff meetings advisory committee meetings and safety committee meetings.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Maintains records of activities undertaken in the support of the laboratory which may include typing forms inputting data or otherwise retaining information regarding the acquisition maintenance and distribution of equipment materials supplies and/or written materials.
  • Oversees general cleanliness and security of the lab or work areas.
  • Maintains sensitivity understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of varying social economic cultural ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

Other Aspects of the Position

  • May be asked to pick-up or deliver items/equipment as needed for the Diesel Technology program; valid drivers license required.
  • Ability to bend stoop crawl reach stand for long periods of time walk and lift to 50-80 lbs.
  • Work hours will vary term by term.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate the individual can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities.
  • Skill in the use of Excel Word and other common software applications.
  • Ability to maintain databases and extract information.
  • Must be a self-starter goal directed strong work ethic and must maintain a positive public image.
  • Knowledge of diesel equipment components.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate and maintain shop.
  • Knowledgeable about general mechanical break-down.

Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Industrial related training.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • An associate degree in diesel related studies and/or10years of experience.

This is a part time position up to hours per week as needed. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

Pay: $30/hour
