This work unit exists to maintain essential laboratory services that are available 24/7 to meet the customer needs and aid in the diagnosis and continuous treatment of patients at the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP). This includes on-site comprehensive laboratory diagnostic testing in the following speciality areas: Bacteriology Mycology Parasitology Virology Syphilis Serology General Immunology Routine Chemistry Urinalysis Endocrinology Toxicology and Hematology. This work unit provides a wide range of laboratory procedures including but not limited to: routine monitoring medication levels compliance testing and STAT services. High-quality test results for methods and equipment are essential in providing the utmost care. CMHHIP Laboratory is nationally accredited by The Joint Commission and maintains a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Certificate of Accreditation (COA). The Laboratory concentrates on operational systems critical to the safety and quality of patient care through the accuracy of test results which ensures accurate patient diagnosis. Laboratory Services are provided to the following Colorado Health Agencies including: Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health (OCFMH) and Forensic Community-Based Services (FCBS).

This position serves as an individual contributor for Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine at CMHHIP. This position oversees the essential functions of one or more of the following areas: Bacteriology Mycology Parasitology Virology Syphilis Serology General Immunology Routine Chemistry Urinalysis Endocrinology Toxicology or Hematology and is responsible for the day-today operation of specimen collection specimen processing test performance and reporting of test results in all major sections of the Laboratory. This position is expected to follow all laboratory-specific policies and procedures as defined in the department standard operating procedures. Duties in this position include:
ensure that diagnostic equipment instruments and test systems are operating properly
troubleshoot calibrate and maintain highly complex automated laboratory equipment to ensure reliability and availability of critical test procedures 24 hours a day 7 days a week
Special Qualifications:
This is a CLIA regulated lab and applicants must meet CLIA educational requirements to be considered for this role. Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience paths: Hold a bachelors degree in chemical biological clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution plus at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience; for nonwaived testing this experience must be in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service.

Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
Education or a bachelors degree in chemical biological clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution plus experience to equal five (5) years
