DEPARTMENT: Faculty of Law

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am 4:30pm

*Substitute vacancy for approximately 18 months

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Legal Career Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting Windsor Law students and recent alumni to identify develop and access careers within traditional non-traditional social justice public interest and alternative areas of the legal profession. This position is responsible for assisting law students with navigating the complexities and specificities of legal careers by offering advising counselling resources and support to identify and achieve professional and career goals.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have:
Degree in Law (JD or LLB) or a combination of education and three years of relevant employment experience in a legal setting as deemed appropriate by the employer
Three years of experience in career advising/counselling human resources or job placement.
Advanced knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the legal profession in Canada and the United States.
Demonstrated commitment and success in working to create a fair inclusive anti-racist environment and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
Proven ability to provide professional guidance and exercise judgment.
Ability to exercise tact discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Effective oral and written communications presentation and coaching skills.
Strong professional networking interpersonal and relationship management skills.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
Effective analytical and organizational skills.
Experience with common office productivity software. (e.g. MS Office LMS Simplicity etc.).
