National Indigenous Network Initiative (NINI) is an inclusive not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Kaurna Country in Adelaide South Australia.

We are dedicated to truth-telling and advancing self-determination through culturally safe trauma-informed and strengths-based therapeutic care that nurtures healing strengthens social and emotional wellbeing and supports mental health.

We are proud to be launching the Aboriginal Social & Emotional Wellbeing Centre in partnership with Sonder and OARS Community Transitions jointly funded by the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments.

The Centre represents a new and exciting chapter for community connection healing and culture-led care.

About the Role

Join a role where lived experience becomes a strength that creates healing belonging and connection.

As a Peer Practitioner you will walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Guests using your own wellbeing or healing journey to provide culturally safe trauma-informed peer support.

You will help Guests feel understood supported and empowered as they navigate their social and emotional wellbeing. Grounded in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework this role plays a meaningful part in shaping a culturally led community-focused service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally safe trauma-informed peer support
  • Build strong trusting relationships with Guests families and community
  • Support wellbeing planning aligned with SEWB principles
  • Facilitate yarning groups healing activities and peer connection spaces
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary culturally led team
  • Maintain accurate records using the client management system
  • Promote cultural emotional and social wellbeing across the service

About You

  • Lived experience of your own healing or wellbeing journey with the ability to draw on this in a safe and purposeful way
  • Ability to build culturally respectful trusting relationships
  • Understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing principles
  • Capacity to work in a strengths-based trauma-informed and community-led way
  • Willingness to participate in cultural supervision and ongoing learning

Qualificattions and Other Requirements

  • Currently have or willing to receive the required vaccinations under the SA Health Policy.
  • Current or willing to obtain a Working with Childrens Check (WWCC)
  • Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
  • Working with Vulnerable People Check

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or equivalent) or willingness to obtain
