Job Summary

  • Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning Landscape Architecture Industrial Design Environmental Graphic Design or a degree related to the specific functions of the position
  • A minimum of two years of professional transportation/mobility and/or policy planning experience in the public and/or private sector
  • Training with Adobe Illustrator is a requirement
  • Experience with wayfinding signage cartography or graphic design
  • Broad experience handling projects

Assets:

  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute/Canadian Institute of Planners
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro or working experience with GIS software

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Join the Urban Planning & Economy Department to play a vital role in making Edmonton an intuitive and navigable city for everyone. This position is key to integrating wayfinding into the planning design and maintenance of all our city networks and systems.

As the Wayfinding Coordinator you will lead the development and application of corporate wayfinding guidelines and initiatives. Your focus will be on signage and mapping to integrate mobility network planning with design and communications directly supporting the implementation of The City Plan. You will ensure the wayfinding program contributes positively to accessibility quality of life economic development and social equity across the city.

What will you do

  • Lead and execute the corporate wayfinding work plan monitoring the progress of strategies related to pedestrian active transportation and parks & open space signage
  • Develop and update corporate policy and standards and propose revisions or additions to standard wayfinding guidance for the City
  • Provide essential technical advice oversight and support for wayfinding components within projects managed by other teams
  • Review project plans to identify wayfinding incorporation opportunities provide preliminary cost estimates and support detailed signage plan development and review
  • Serve as the key corporate liaison for the maintenance and implementation of Edmontons wayfinding network systems
  • Steward education and awareness initiatives across the Corporation regarding existing guidelines and resources
  • Manage centralized wayfinding resources including spatial data signage inventories in ArcGIS and non-signage public facing resources like maps
  • Write clear draft briefings backgrounders memos and reports for City Council motions and inquiries
  • Manage contracts and relationships with vendors who provide general signage and wayfinding support
