Position Summary

The Director for Special Projects provides strategic operational and administrative leadership in support of Livingstone Colleges mission and institutional goals. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Special Projects this role manages high-priority cross-functional initiatives that advance institutional efficiency strategic growth and student success.

The Director serves as a bridge between leadership vision and execution ensuring projects are well-coordinated measurable and mission-driven. This position plays a vital role in advancing Livingstone Colleges objectives as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) committed to academic excellence innovation and community engagement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership

  • Lead and oversee the planning coordination and execution of major institutional projects and special initiatives.
  • Translate executive leadership directives into actionable project plans with defined goals milestones deliverables and performance indicators.
  • Monitor progress assess outcomes and provide ongoing status reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Conduct bench-marking research and data analysis to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Ensure all initiatives align with the Colleges strategic plan and accreditation standards.

Operational and Administrative Management

  • Oversee daily operations and administrative functions of assigned projects.
  • Develop and manage project budgets timelines and vendor contracts in collaboration with Business and Finance.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance workflow operational efficiency and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level reports proposals and presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison among internal departments faculty staff and external partners to ensure effective communication and accountability.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and task force initiatives to drive campus-wide progress.
  • Partner with Communications and Institutional Advancement to promote the visibility of key projects and outcomes.
  • Represent the Office of Special Projects in meetings committees and community collaborations.
  • Provide logistical and operational support for special events ceremonies and college-wide initiatives managed by the Office of Special Projects.
  • Coordinate with the Event Manager and other stakeholders to ensure the successful planning and execution of institutional events and functions associated with Special Projects.

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

  • Bachelors degree required in Business Administration Higher Education Administration Public Administration or a related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in project management operations or higher education administration.
  • Proven success managing complex multi-departmental projects with measurable outcomes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including report and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to exercise discretion maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and the mission of Livingstone College.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Standard office environment; may require occasional evening or weekend work for institutional events.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
