Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Physician (1099)

Pay:$140 per hour (1099).

Relocation/sign-on bonus:$10000.

Locations:VAMC Clarksburg WV.
VA Business hours:The hospital operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year including federal holidays.

Schedule: Normal business hours for the hospitals are 7:00am to 7:00pm and/or 7:00pm to 7:00am Wednesday through Tuesday.

Patients must be seen on-site at the facility in a timely manner in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult completion.

Job Qualifications:

License: Shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia)

All licenses held by the key personnel shall be full and unrestricted licenses.

Board certification and experience:Shall be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine have experience in providing scope of care as described herein and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.

Direct Patient Care: Estimated 95% of the time involved in direct patient care.

Scope of Care: Shall be responsible for providing Hospital Medicine Physician care including but not limited to:

  • Evaluation Treatment and Management: Shall admit and coordinate all aspects of care for hospitalized medical patients including:
  • Admission including history and physical examinations.
  • Appropriate placement within the hospital.
  • Evaluation and treatment including the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies including laboratory diagnostic imaging and electrocardiographic examinations and the administration of medications normally considered part of the practice of hospital medicine.
  • Discussion of end-of-life preferences/advanced care planning.
  • Consultations with sub-specialists.
  • Timely and proactive discharge planning.
  • Coordination of care with Primary Care Physicians.
  • Discharge including ensuring appropriate follow-up is arranged.
  • Perioperative care.
  • Shall assess stabilize and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. This includes running code teams and rapid response teams.
  • The core privileges in this specialty include the procedures on the list (below) and such other procedures that are extensions of the same techniques and skills. This is not intended to be an all-encompassing procedures list. It defines the types of activities/procedures/privileges that the majority of practitioners in this specialty perform at the VA and inherent activities/procedures/privileges requiring similar skill sets and techniques.
  • Abscess incision and drainage.
  • Thoracentesis.
  • Nasogastric tube insertion.
  • Reinsertion of gastric tube.
  • Fecal occult blood testing.
  • Paracentesis.
  • Placement of transurethral catheter.
  • Aspiration and injection of joints except ankle and hip Injection of lateral epicondyle (tennis elbow).
  • All ACLS procedures.
  • Removal of lines and tubes.
  • Lumbar Puncture.

Medications: Shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.

Discharge education: Shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Hospital patients.
