Senior Software Engineer Cyber Missions
Location: Laurel MD
Join Peratons high-impact Cyber Missions Team and help build mission-critical capabilities that directly support national-level cybersecurity operations. Were looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about solving complex problems creating scalable systems and shaping innovative solutions using cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.
In this role youll be a key contributor on an integrated product development team driving the full lifecycle of agile software design and development. Youll help design build test and deploy a full-featured service running across large-scale compute clusters and AWS cloud infrastructure while continuously improving performance reliability and user experience.
What Youll Do
Lead and support all phases of agile software development including design development testing integration and deployment
Build and optimize distributed systems running at scale across AWS and high-performance compute clusters
Apply advanced AI techniquessuch as LLMs RAG and agentic AIto enhance system capability and automation
Improve performance reliability and scalability through tuning monitoring and observability best practices
Support ongoing operations sustainment and enhancement of mission-critical services
Mentor junior engineers provide technical guidance and contribute to architectural decision-making
Evaluate technical requirements estimate effort and create high-quality designs and documentation
What You Bring
Technical Expertise
Hands-on experience with LLMs RAG frameworks and agentic AI systems
Deep understanding of AWS cloud architecture services SDKs and APIs
Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
Experience with observability and search platforms (Elasticsearch OpenSearch etc.)
Solid grounding in CI/CD pipelines automated testing deployment and monitoring
Strong Java development skills for distributed networked multi-threaded systems
Agile development experience with modern source control and collaboration tools
Strong Linux fundamentals and the ability to script in languages like Python Ruby or Perl
Familiarity with microservices architectures and container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes)
Understanding of security and compliance best practices for cloud-native systems

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
20 years of software engineering experience supporting programs of similar scope and complexity.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field (or 4 additional years of relevant SWE experience in lieu of a degree).
Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
