Job Summary

Description

The In-House Suspension (ISS) Teacher plays a critical role in supporting students who have been assigned in-school suspension by ensuring they remain engaged in academic work build accountability skills and receive structured socialemotional support throughout the day. This role requires strong classroom management consistent communication with teachers and administrators and the ability to foster a calm reflective environment that helps students reset and successfully return to their regular classes.

In this role you will:

  • 1. Daily Setup & Student Orientation
    • Prepare the ISS space for the day gather student assignments and review expectations.
    • Take attendance and ensure students have the materials and clarity needed to begin their day successfully.
  • 2. Student Check-Ins & Emotional Support
    • Conduct morning and afternoon check-ins to assess student readiness emotional needs and areas requiring support.
    • Build rapport and create a calm supportive environment that helps students regulate and stay focused.
  • 3. Academic Monitoring & Work Completion
    • Oversee students as they complete their synchronous classwork and online assignments throughout the day.
    • Maintain a focused quiet work environment and promote productivity and academic engagement.
    • Communicate with teachers as needed regarding assignments and student progress.
  • 4. Break Supervision & Behavior Management
    • Supervise structured breaks including bathroom and movement breaks to ensure safety and help students reset.
    • Reinforce behavioral expectations consistently and provide redirection when necessary.
  • 5. Accountability & Reflection Activities
    • Facilitate daily reflection sessions restorative conversations and accountability tasks (e.g. TED Talks Navigate360 assignments).
    • Encourage students to reflect on choices develop problem-solving skills and build responsibility.
  • 6. End-of-Day Review & Transition Support
    • Guide students through end-of-day routines including returning assignments completing accountability tasks and preparing for the following day.
    • Conduct final check-insespecially for students transitioning out of ISSto ensure they are ready to re-integrate successfully.

  • One to two years of teaching experience (preferably at the secondary level preferred).
  • Bachelors degree
  • SEI endorsement within one year of employment
  • Current authorization to work in the United States a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment

Veritas Prep offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefit packages that include the following:

  • Salary Range for this position is $40000- $60000 exclusive of fringe benefits.
    • If hired your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as skills education and/or experience.
    • In addition to those factors we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
    • Keep in mind the above range is the full base salary range for this position. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
