Radio-Canada Alberta is looking for a Cross-Platform Reporter/Editor to cover cultural and societal topics. Based in Edmonton youll be joining a high-performing innovative team thats driven to excel.

In this role youll report on cultural news and societal issues throughout the province. This includes everything from emerging artistic scenes to major institutions one-off events to ongoing debates and societal trends to community initiatives. Youll also travel occasionally to cover specific cultural or community events across British Columbia.

Youll produce content for all platforms (radio TV and digital) including live and prerecorded reports with a focus on new formats and digital content. Youll also be expected to pitch compelling story ideas and conduct thorough research on human-interest topics that resonate with a wide audience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Pitch research and produce compelling reports articles reviews and profiles focused on arts and community themes.

  • Conduct insightful interviews with artists thought leaders and other players in the creative community.

  • Continuously monitor local national and international cultural and social issues to identify new story opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop innovative content formats such as short videos staged readings and photo essays.

  • Actively participate in the content distribution strategy for our digital platforms and social media accounts.

The work schedule may include weekend and evening shifts especially when you cover cultural events.

What you bring

  • University degree or equivalent.

  • Two years of directly related experience that includes proven ability in the field and knowledge of the media industry.

  • Proven ability to find stories.

  • Knowledge of the Alberta arts scene and its key players an asset.

  • Solid command of spoken and written French (language of work).

  • Excellent understanding of spoken and written English and ease speaking the language.

  • Knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Critical mind.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.

  • A talent for translating complex realities into clear contextualized and compelling narratives.

  • Proven ability to work independently in a faced-paced deadline-driven environment.

  • Good general knowledge and a keen curiosity about artistic social and contemporary issues.

  • Solid knowledge of Alberta Canadian and international news.

  • Familiarity with issues affecting French-speaking minority communities particularly in Alberta.

  • Availability to travel and work flexible hours including on weekends.

  • Valid Canadian drivers licence.

  • Ability to pick up new technology quickly.

  • Knowledge of newsroom production applications (iNews Dalet Scoop! and Avid) an asset.
