Each year the chemical and pharmaceutical industries destroy more than 30 billion worth of usable materials. Not because theyre unsafe but because the systems that manage them werent built for circularity. InCycling changes that.
Were building a cloud-native middleware that connects directly to enterprise ERPs such as SAP S/4HANA via the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and Integration Suite and automatically matches surplus materials with verified traders and buyers.
Our platform enables AI-driven circularity: detecting surplus understanding material quality matching it to compatible downstream use cases and helping companies prove measurable reductions in CO₂ emissions and industrial waste.

InCycling was founded by experienced industry executives each with over 20 years of leadership experience in biotech and pharma. Weve lived the operational complexity of large industrial systems from the inside and understand the barriers that keep circularity from scaling.
Based in Berlin and part of the AI Nation Accelerator were already working hands-on with our first industrial partner and have access to real ERP data.

Your Role
This is a founding-level individual contributor engineering role with a clear path to technical leadership and team-building responsibilities as the company scales. Youll grow from hands-on IC to leading the engineering functions as the organisation scales.
Youll build the digital backbone that makes our intelligence run. Where the AI team defines what to match you define how it flows scales is secure and stays resilient.
This is a greenfield project - there are no legacy constraints. Youll make the foundational architecture and infrastructure choices. SAP integration via BTP/Integration Suite is a requirement - our clients use these systems - but how you build around it is yours to define.
Youll define how technology sustainability and enterprise systems come together to realize circularity in the chemical industry as operational reality at scale.
In Your First 612 Months
Build the first production-ready middleware backbone for ERP-connected surplus detection and matching.
Establish core observability: logging metrics tracing and incident response basics.
Deliver the initial SAP-linked data pipelines and event-driven workflows.
Integrate and operate the first generation of AI agents and matching services in production.
Tasks
What Youll Work On
Core Platform Architecture
Architect and implement our cloud-native integration platform built for ERP
interoperability live data streaming and secure automation.
Develop APIs and data pipelines that connect InCycling ai to SAP S/4HANA and adjacent systems via SAP BTP / Integration Suite.
Middleware Engineering
Design and operate the transaction and workflow engine: surplus listing ingestion validation matching execution and traceable confirmations.
Implement asynchronous processing and an event-driven architecture for scalable throughput across regions and partners.
Build resilience mechanisms such as graceful degradation intelligent retries and circuit breakers for unstable external systems.
AI Integration & Automation
Work closely with the Head of AI to deploy matching models agentic workflows and NLP pipelines into production.
Create the runtime environment for intelligent agents to interact safely with ERP and business logic layers.
Build monitoring and orchestration tools that ensure reliability explainability and controlled rollouts (canary deployments safe rollback) of autonomous workflows.
Quality Security & Compliance
Implement ISO 27001/SOC2-level security data integrity and audit mechanisms from day one.
Founding Impact
Make architectural and product decisions that define the technical DNA of InCycling.
Contribute directly to roadmap definition technology selection and engineering culture.
Mentor future hires and help structure a high-impact mission-driven tech team.
Act as the owner of platform health: uptime performance data consistency and security.
Requirements
Must-Have
5 years in Backend / Systems / Platform Engineering with hands-on coding
experience.
Deep understanding of API design microservice architecture and cloud infrastructure (AWS GCP or Azure).
Proven experience with ERP or enterprise integration (SAP or similar complex B2B environments). SAP integration is mandatory for this role.
Strong sense for system reliability data consistency and information security.
Experience with event-driven systems and asynchronous processing.
Pragmatic product-oriented mindset - you build things that work and scale.
Based in Berlin or willing to relocate.
Nice-to-Have
Experience with SAP BTP SAP S/4HANA integration or other large ERP landscapes.
Background in compliance-heavy or industrial environments.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform Pulumi) observability tooling and security best practices.
