Job Title: Machinist
Client: Medical Device Manufacturing Company
Duration: 6 Months
Location: Dexter Michigan 48130
Shift: 1st Shift - 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (40 hrs/week)
Position Summary
Experienced machinist responsible for setting up operating and maintaining a wide range of precision machine tools. This role supports manufacturing operations with skilled machining work quality checks and guidance to junior staff. Requires strong blueprint interpretation precision measurement and machining expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate lathes milling machines shapers planers and precision grinders
Machine metal parts tools mechanisms and assemblies to exact tolerances
Interpret engineering blueprints sketches and specifications
Determine machining sequence number of cuts setups tooling feeds and speeds
Perform layout work: measure mark scribe and prepare stock for machining
Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment
Modify NC programs when needed
Use precision measuring tools (micrometers calipers gauges)
Monitor and verify quality following standard procedures or SPC methods
Provide guidance coaching and training to lower-level machinists
Production Support Responsibilities
Support manufacturing operations including assembly processing and packaging
Operate automatic or semi-automatic machines in continuous production
Report machine malfunctions and support corrective actions
Assist with shipping receiving inventory control or storage tasks when needed
Autonomy
Works under limited supervision
Handles routine work independently; receives general instructions for new tasks
Well-versed in operational equipment and established procedures
May assist with nonroutine tasks or special projects
Organizational Impact
Works on assignments requiring judgment and problem-solving
May take ownership of small projects or special initiatives
Supports production efficiency and workflow continuity

Handles general issues requiring analysis and practical solutions
Recommends minor process or system improvements

Required Knowledge & Experience
Minimum 4 years of machining or relevant manufacturing experience
Broad knowledge of machining operations tooling and production systems
Vocational/technical training or certification may be required
Strong understanding of precision measurement and machining calculations
Ability to operate multiple machine tools and read complex engineering drawings
