Main Purpose of Job

This position will work with all Behavioral Health Services programs located at the Frederick County Health Department to provide consistent communications lead and support best practices for public health messaging coordinate media and community engagement and ensure behavioral health communication reflects credibility compassion and accountability to the public. The Public Affairs Officer I will coordinate communications with media work with programs to develop key messages and message mapping for services and oversee content and maintenance of BHS webpages and social media accounts. This position will also work with communications agencies to develop and produce public health campaigns on key behavioral health issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of experience in public information public relations journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English journalism public relations writing or other similar and related areas of study and two years of experience in public information public relations journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
