Downers National Projects team has secured the Mid-Block section of the Hawkes Bay Expressway a key part of the RONS programme. This major infrastructure project will deliver the upgrade of the existing expressway to four lanes alongside significant safety and resilience improvements.

Downer will deliver the full scope of civil construction and pavement works in partnership with NZTA contributing to a safer and more efficient transport network for the Hawkes Bay region.

We are looking for an experienced Civil Superintendent to join our team on the Hawkes Bay Expressway. You will be responsible for the coordination of all onsite construction activities supervision of field personnel and ensuring the project progresses on programme within budget and to specification. With the Expressway being a critical piece of regional infrastructure you will play a major role in shaping a safer and more resilient transport network for the region.

Your day to day will involve :

Managing day-to-day construction operations on the Expressway
Maintaining programme resolving issues early and driving productivity
Ensuring quality workmanship that meets design and specification
Building strong relationships with clients subcontractors and suppliers
Leading a positive safety culture and ensuring consistent compliance
Keeping accurate daily records and site documentation

Ngā pūkenga matua Skills & Experience

To thrive in this role you will bring:

5 years experience in civil construction supervision
Trade or tertiary qualification (preferred)
Proven experience managing major civil or roading projects
Strong skills in scheduling field supervision quality control and productivity monitoring
Ability to build and lead high-performing site teams
Excellent understanding of civil plans specifications and contract requirements
Strong communication and stakeholder management capability
Dedication to fostering a Zero Harm culture
High attention to detail proactive problem solving and organised work practices
Flexibility to work across various sections of the Expressway project
