The Biomedical Engineering Specialist conducts electrical safety testing and assists with scheduled preventive maintenance. They complete assigned repairs and thoroughly document all work performed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. This role also supports other duties as directed by department leadership aligned with the mission and standards of Womans Hospital. The position requires knowledge of electronic component functions safety codes and regulations strong mechanical aptitude and a working understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
Requirements:
- Education: Must have a high school education or equivalent plus be a trade or vocational school graduate with a degree in electronics or biomedical technology or equivalent work experience and skill level.
- Experience: Two years of biomedical equipment repair or maintenance experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains and performs PMs and safety tests on all medical equipment and sterilizers.
- Conducts operational and electrical safety inspections of all new electrically operated equipment upon receipt by hospital.
- Calibrates and adjusts components and equipment using hand tools power tools measuring devices and following manufacturers manuals and troubleshooting techniques within 24 hours of receipt.
- Completes minor repairs as assigned documents all repairs and test results according to department policy and procedure manual.
- Inspects and tests malfunctioning medical and related equipment using test and analysis instruments and following manufacturers specifications.
- Consults with medical or research staff to ensure that equipment functions properly and safely. Renders written reports on testing or evaluations of new and existing biomedical equipment and products as requested by supervisor product evaluation committee or other department directors
- Logs records of maintenance and repair work and approved updates of equipment as required by manufacturer. Documents all PM and safety inspections and returns completed work orders prior to first day of each month.
