Purpose:
The Senior Project Engineer will be seconded full-time to Shell Scotford providing on-site engineering coordination project execution oversight and multi-discipline interface management across sustaining capital brownfield modification debottlenecking and turnaround projects. The role ensures that engineering deliverables construction activities and field execution align with Shells asset requirements while maintaining Shell standards for quality safety and technical excellence.
This position will be under the direction and control of Shell PMT and will have to manage projects allotted to various EP houses. Will help in bridging engineering operations maintenance construction and project controls to ensure safe reliable and predictable project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Engineering & Technical Leadership
Provide on-site project engineering leadership across the full life cycle of brownfield and sustaining capital projects (concept development through commissioning and close-out).
Coordinate with EP Contractors /EP houses multi-discipline engineering activities (mechanical civil/structural electrical instrumentation process etc.) to ensure alignment with project scope schedule and technical requirements.
Lead clarification and resolution of technical issues arising during detailed engineering construction or commissioning.
Steward the management of change (MOC) process ensuring technical modifications are fully assessed documented and approved.
Ensure engineering deliverables meet Shell and Worley specifications industry codes/standards and regulatory requirements.
Support development of project scopes of work engineering estimates design packages and construction work packages (CWPs).
Construction & Field Execution Support
Provide daily engineering support to Shell site teams construction contractors and maintenance personnel.
Perform field checks site verifications and constructability reviews; identify potential issues early and recommend solutions.
Facilitate timely resolution of field queries (RFIs SQs TQs).
Participate in construction readiness reviews installation sequencing pre-commissioning activities and turnover planning.
Ensure engineering decisions support safe execution operability and maintainability of assets.
Project Controls & Delivery Assurance
Coordinate closely with project controls to support schedule development progress measurement and forecasting.
Support cost awareness by identifying scope growth potential risks and opportunities for optimization.
Track project deliverables and engineering progress ensuring timely completion of milestones.
Participate in risk reviews HAZOPs/HAZIDs constructability reviews and readiness assessments.
Stakeholder & Interface Management
Serve as the primary on-site engineering interface between Shell asset teams Worley & Other EP engineering offices construction contractors and project stakeholders.
Maintain strong communication across Shells operations maintenance inspection HSSE and project management teams.
Ensure efficient flow of information between Shell site teams and Worley & Other EP engineering groups to maintain technical alignment.
Quality HSSE and Compliance
Champion Shell and Worley HSSE expectations and ensure engineering and construction activities follow site safety practices and safe work procedures.
Identify and address quality issues early; engage QA/QC resources when required.
Ensure all engineering and project documentation meets Shells internal requirements for safety operability reliability and regulatory compliance.
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical guidance and leadership to junior and intermediate engineers as required.
Promote a culture of collaboration accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical Civil/Structural Electrical or Instrumentation preferred).
Extensive experience in project engineering within oil & gas petrochemical heavy industrial or refinery environments.
Strong experience working on active operating facilities with brownfield constraints.
Experience supporting both engineering and construction phases including field verification constructability reviews and commissioning support.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-discipline engineering teams and resolve technical issues in the field.
Highly effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Familiarity with project controls (cost schedule change management).
Eligibility for APEGA registration (. required or immediately eligible).
Work Environment
Full-time presence at Shell Scotford (Fort Saskatchewan). 3 Days at Scotford Wed/Thurs/Friday and other 2 days work from home or Worley office
Embedded in Shells site-based teams working under Shell PMT direction while reporting to Worleys Senior Portfolio Director for the Scotford portfolio.
Fast-paced environment requiring daily interaction with operations construction and multiple engineering disciplines.
Occasional travel to Calgary or Edmonton engineering offices may be required.
