Job Duties

The Electronic Technician supports the academic mission of the Department of Applied Engineering Technology by maintaining and renewing software classroom electronics laboratory equipment laptops computers and other instructional technologies. This role ensures that all academic-related electronic systems and devices are functional secure and up-to-date to support teaching learning and research activities.

Key Responsibilities

Software Maintenance & Renewal
Install update and troubleshoot academic software across departmental devices.
Maintain software licenses and ensure timely renewals.
Coordinate with IT and vendors for software support and upgrades.

Classroom & Laboratory Support
Maintain and repair classroom electronics including projectors smart boards control panels and audio-visual systems.
Ensure all lab equipment is operational and calibrated for instructional use.
Set up and test equipment for classroom demonstrations and lab experiments.

Computer & Device Management
Maintain laptops desktops and tablets used in classrooms and labs.
Perform routine diagnostics updates and repairs.
Ensure cybersecurity protocols are followed on all devices.

Inventory & Procurement
Track and manage inventory of electronic equipment and supplies.
Assist in procurement of new equipment and software through the eVA system.
Maintain documentation of equipment usage maintenance and service history.

Faculty & Student Support
Provide technical assistance to faculty during instruction and lab sessions.
Support students with device and software issues related to coursework.
Train users on proper use of equipment and software when needed.

Other Duties as Assigned
Participate in departmental meetings and committees.
Assist during university emergencies or special events.
Support the department in achieving its academic and operational goals.


Minimum Qualifications

Proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting electronic devices and systems.

Knowledge of academic software platforms and licensing.

Ability to manage and maintain computer hardware and software.

Familiarity with classroom and lab technologies.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an academic environment.

Knowledge of logistics technologies including warehouse management systems and radio frequency identification systems
ArcGIS SAP and ProTools PLM (Product Life Cycle Management).

Ability to perform repairs on equipment.

Knowledge and ability to establish and maintain databases for inventory.

Ability to process procurement requests through eVA system.

Ability to manage laboratory supplies.

Additional Considerations

PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS:

Experience in an academic or educational technology support role.

Familiarity with eVA procurement system.

Certifications in electronics repair or IT support (e.g. CompTIA A etc.).

Associates degree or higher in Electronics Technology Information Technology or a related field.

Relevant work experience in electronics maintenance and academic technology support.
