Across our 60 locations we provide programs in a variety of service areas including workforce development children youth families seniors and homeless prevention.
BronxWorks Afterschool offers high quality programs that have a strong balance of academics recreation enrichment and cultural activities to support and strengthen the overall development of youths. BronxWorks Afterschool aims to help young people build skills to support their academic achievement raise their confidence and cultivate their leadership skills through service learning and other civic engagement opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of Children
- Responsible for the consistent and safe supervision of children and youth in grades K8 maintaining required teacher-to-child ratios (1:10 for ages 59 and 1:15 for ages 10 and up).
- Conduct and document daily attendance headcount checks at the start end and intermittently throughout the day.
- Ensures accurate real-time knowledge of the number of children in care and their whereabouts during all program activities and transitions.
Participant Engagement
- Collaborate with the Program Director and/or Coordinator to create and coordinate activities for youth and advance program goals.
- Facilitate daily group youth activities that promote learning creativity and well-being including STEM/STEAM literacy fitness and socialemotional development and prepare a structured weekly lesson plan.
- Demonstrate positive role-modeling for children in grades K8th grade by showing empathy respect and cooperation in daily interactions and reinforcing these behaviors through consistent age-appropriate guidance.
- Provide classroom management and instruction.
Training & Compliance
- Successfully complete all mandated company funder and DYCD DOH safety trainings and maintain renewals
- Attend staff training sessions.
Administrative
- Meet monthly with program coordinator and/or program director for supervision.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent credentials.
- 3 Months to one-year experience working with youth in a recreational educational and/or social environment.
- Clearance through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services required.
- Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred.
- Experience with or knowledge of whole language philosophy preferred.
- Ability to establish rapport with young people.
- Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
- Strong oral and written communication time management and organizational skills are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand walk or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather including inclement weather.
