Job Summary

Description

The HVAC/Refrigerant Technician is responsible for installing maintaining diagnosing and repairing commercial refrigeration systems with a specific focus on refrigeration units used in commercial settings. This individual will provide support to other areas of Facilities Services & Dining Services and will assist in evaluating the needs of each system to maintain critical heating and cooling systems within required areas.



Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and service tasks on HVAC/Refrigerant (HVAC/R) systems to ensure efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and refrigeration components such as compressors motors condensers and evaporators.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical defects and malfunctions in HVAC/R systems by visual inspection and through the use of testing devices.
  • Test and calibrate HVAC/R systems for optimal performance.
  • Comply with all safety standards and regulations while performing work.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Report and correct any unsafe practices or conditions to supervision.
  • Respond to emergency service calls for HVAC and refrigeration repairs.
  • Study technical materials and repair manuals to increase knowledge of equipment and systems used on campus and the safety protocols needed for safe operation of all systems.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED
  • EPA Section 608 Certification.
  • Experience:5-years of experience or an equivalent combination of trade school (HVAC or Refrigerant related field) and experience. Experience may substitute for education on a year-to-year basis.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    • Ability to understand standard equipment operating and handling safety protocols.
    • Mechanical knowledge and skills to service and repair HVAC/R systems and related equipment.
    • Ability to follow given instructions and maintain accurate records.
  • Other Conditions:
    • Valid Drivers license
    • Ability to wear a respirator and other assigned PPE
