The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Safety Security & Airworthiness (SS&A) organizationis looking for an Experienced (Level 3) or Senior (Level 4 or 5) Systems Safety Engineerto join the Aviation Safety Team within Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance. This position is based onsite in Seal Beach CA.
As an Airplane Safety Engineer you will be responsible for working cross-functionally to conduct safety analyses across development modification and operation phases of the product lifecycle. We are looking for innovative enthusiastic and highly collaborative individuals with unlimited curiosity and a passion for diving into design architecture details. The role offers the opportunity to perform safety analysis at the component system and airplane levels across a variety of functional disciplines including Avionics Mechanical Environmental Electrical and Propulsion. Our objectives are achieved through independent research teamwork creative thinking and meticulous attention to detail.
A successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and understanding of statistical methods and will be adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of failures malfunctions and defects. They will excel at collaborating with Design Engineers to help create a robust design. You will play a key role in supporting the continued safe operation of todays commercial fleet and in developing the next generation of commercial aircraft.
Primary responsibilities:
- Provides technical guidance and training relative to complex safety and airworthiness matters.
- Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards risks and safety concerns and quantifies impact.
- Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define validate and integrate safety mission success and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs operations and procedures.
- Performs or reviews tests analyses inspections audits and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements.
- Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes.
- Documents safety analysis hazard mitigation validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
- Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans. Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators.
- Ensures mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle.
- Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies training tools and methods.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
- Level 3: 5 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 4: 9 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 5: 14 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science.
- 3 years of experience in aerospace systems engineering
- 1 years of experience in System Safety Analysis
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
- Experience with engineering/scientific principles with particular emphasis on the aeronautical mechanical and electrical system disciplines
- Experience with aircraft systems components and functions (e.g. Flight Controls Hydraulics Avionics Fuels etc.) or Systems Integration
- Experience gathering manipulating and analyzing large amounts of data
- Experience in assessing and documenting analysis to show compliance
- Experience with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 25.1309
- Experience with Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARP) ARP4754 and ARP4761
- Experience with Continued Operational Safety Process (COSP) and reporting criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
