1.0 FTE Hair Styling Instructional Teacher

This is a temporary assignment effective December 1 2025 to January 9 2026 or to return of teacher to full contractual FTE.
The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District No. 83 is seeking an instructor for our Hairstylist Foundation Program that is offered at Pleasant Valley Secondary in Armstrong B.C. As an ITA designated training center weprovide technical (or classroom) training for British Columbias apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs. ITA awards credit for training only fromDesignated Training and employer sponsors can be assured that Designated Training Providers meet ITAs strict program standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts or Education;
- Current membership in the B.C. College of Teachers;
- Journeyperson Red Seal Hairstylist qualification
- A Provincial (BC) Instructors Diploma or completion of an equivalent instructional techniques program
Work Experience:- A minimum of5years experience working in the Hairstyling industry
- Knowledge of current industry practices
- A record of continuous learning in a variety of industry related seminars and courses
Instructional Experience and Education:- It is preferred that the instructor also possesses 2 or more years of teaching or training experience in the field of hairdressing
Teachers applying must possess the following attributes:- ability to prepare students for a ITA standardized written examworking towardstheir Certificate of Completion (C of C Hairstylist Foundation)
- successful secondary teaching experience;
- demonstrated use of a variety of instructional and assessment strategies;
- excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment with other department members;
- evidence of ability to motivate secondary students;
- committed to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning.
