DescriptionThe Rossoll Labat Mayo Clinic Floridais recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellowto join an NIH-funded project exploring the molecular chaperone functions of nuclear-import receptor proteins (importins)in frontotemporal dementia (FTD)and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Our goal is to understand how importin act as chaperons to regulate TDP-43 phase behavior nuclear import and toxicity and how these mechanisms can be harnessed to design therapeutic strategies for TDP-43 proteinopathies.
We use a multidisciplinary approach combining molecular and cell biology advanced fluorescence microscopy proteomics and mouse modelsof neurodegenerative disease to uncover how importin-mediated pathways maintain neuronal proteostasis.
The position offers an opportunity to work in a highly interactive neuroscience community at Mayo Clinic Florida with access to world-class facilities and other resources including the brain bank.
A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars Research Scholars Professors Specialists and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
QualificationsWe are looking for a candidate who:
- Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Neuroscience Cell or Molecular Biology Biochemistry or related field
- Strong background in molecular and cell biology techniques mammalian cell culture and fluorescence microscope
- Experience with mouse models of neurodegeneration is highly desirable
- Are creative collaborative and eager to work in an interdisciplinary environment
Interested applicants should send a cover letter CV and contact information for three referencesto Dr. Wilfried Rossoll at.
Location: Jacksonville Florida
