Job Description Summary

As An R&D Labs lead Electrical Engineer you will report to the HVDC Valve Test Team Leader within the Product Delivery Group (PDG) of Grid Systems Integration (GSI) in GE Vernova.
This is a multi-disciplined hands-on role. Candidates are expected to have good practical skills in both Electrical and Mechanical engineering as well as excellent diagnostic skills. Youll also need good general IT skills and a working knowledge of computer networks.
Ideally youll be a time served apprentice and will have worked in a HV test lab or manufacturing area before and have a good working knowledge of the types of equipment used.
In addition to a high level of Electrical knowledge youll be comfortable using hand and power tools and have good basic fabrication skills.
You must be curious willing and able to learn whatever skills are necessary to get the job done from tidying up to presenting technical proposals for Lab upgrades.
Youll need to be self-motivated able to plan and execute a task to a high standard and independently of others.
Youll be the gatekeeper for safety in a high-risk environment. Safety must be the primary concern of everything you do and you must lead others with your example.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Maintaining a safe working environment within the Labs area. Implementation and governance of safe working procedures to ensure test setups are conceived and executed using the hierarchy of controls with the removal of hazards using safety by design.

Supporting Engineers in the setup and execution of testing within the lab review and enforcement of safety documentation associated with testing activities.

Creation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for testing and maintenance

Sourcing and procurement of Test Equipment and Lab consumables.

Ongoing maintenance and repair of Lab assets.

Supervision of contractors working in the area including reviewing RAMS and issue of relevant permits as required.

Operation of forklift trucks cranes and MEWPs within the facility (training will be provided)

Maintain the calibration of test equipment as required

Ongoing development of 5S within the Labs area alongside general lean and continuous improvement activities.

Supporting the implementation of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) activities.

Desired Knowledge & Experience:

Previous electrical testing experience.

Using test instrumentation (oscilloscopes HV dividers multi-meters shunts/CTs power supplies telemetry)

Electrical / electronic testing/fault finding skills (PCB level to high voltage)

HV Electrical Safety Awareness (clearances earthing Isolation VAV)

EHS Compliance (working to method statements risk assessments LOTO permits to work)

Correct use of basic workshop tools

Wiring and soldering skills

Able to work independently and part of a team.

Very practically minded and able to work hands on.

Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience in HVDC or a related engineering field.

HNC or above or equivalent experience in a HV test environment.
