Position Summary
The Background Check Specialistis responsible forhelping with the background check investigation process. This position will be coordinating and documenting required background check requests andresults andconduct quality assurance reviews to ensure background checks aresubmittedcompletely and accurately prior to submission and within the requiredtimeframesand deadlines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Background Check Specialistwill perform duties including but not limited to:
- Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Programs Mission Values and Philosophies.
- Understand policies and backgroundcheckregulationsrequirements and processes required byfederal state and localagenciesand be capable of conducting background checks include those mandated by federal state and localregulationsand may include but are not limited toPublic Records CheckSex Offender Registry Check conducted through the U.S. Department of JusticeNational Sex Offender Public Websitecheck National FBI criminal background check ChildAbuse andNeglect(CA/N)record check State Criminal History Repository CheckLocal Police CheckORR Central Registry checkDrivers Record andClearanceall additional Statebackground check requirements any local background check requirement
- Responsible forconducting allrequiredbackground checksfor sponsor families foster familiesapplicants employeescontractorsinternsvolunteersand other individualsrequiringbackground checks.
- Documentthe status ofbackground checkrequests and the background checkresults inappropriate database.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure background checks are complete andaccurateprior to submission and within the requiredtimeframesand deadlinesas described any discrepancies disqualifying offenses or compliance issuesto HR Leadershipfor legal review.
- Communicate withindividuals being background checkedregardingtheirbackground check statusto ensurethe safereleaseofunaccompanied alien childrentoan appropriatesponsortimelyplacement with a foster familyorensure thesuitability ofan employee intern contractor or volunteerto work with children in ORR care.
- Supportteamwithreference checks and other documentation as needed.
- Assess backgroundcheckturnaround times and report to HRleaderssuggestedimprovements fortimeliness of receiving resultscompliance orquality improvement.
- Assist withState and ORRauditscomplianceinternal reviews and policy updates related to background screening.
- Performs other duties asrequested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Highschooldiploma or equivalent degree.
- Bilingual (English Spanish). Fluency in Spanish is required.
- Minimum of 3 yearsemployment experience.
- Must have base technical skills in Microsoft applications toinclude Excel Word and
- Smartsheets.
- Must havegood communicationand project management skills.
- High levelofconfidentiallyrequired.
- Must havebasetechnical skills in Microsoft applicationsto includeExcelWordandSmartsheet.
- Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers smart phones and tablets printers faxmachinesand photocopiers as well as software including word processingspreadsheetand database programs.
OTHER SKILLS
- Enthusiastic self-starter.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Works well independently and as a team member.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Use of manual dexterity tactile visual and audio acuity.
- Use of repetitive motion prolonged periods of sitting and standing and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds) bending pulling and carrying.
- Reasonableaccommodationsmay be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
