The units primary specialties are General surgery Orthopedics Cardiothoracic Neurosurgery ENT Urology Podiatry GYN Plastics and Hand. The unit houses two DaVinci robots for our robotically trained teams in General surgery Cardiothoracic Urology and GYN.

Scope of Work

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology and utilizing extensive patient assessment skills collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Performs all activities at an expanded level of perioperative nursing practice executed within the context of the nursing process. Intra-operatively the RNFA actively assists the surgeon performing observable technical behaviors (cognitive psycho motor and affective) based on an extensive body of scientific knowledge as specified in the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Core Curriculum for the RNFA.

Qualifications

Required

Associates in Nursing
Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years
MI Registered Nurse (RN)
Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days
Nurse in OR (CNOR) - CCI or Nurse in OR (CNOR) - AORN within 1 year
