As a Fish and Wildlife Technician at the Denman Wildlife Area in Central Point Oregon you will:

  • Assist with wildlife area trail maintenance habitat enhancement and/or restoration weed eradication and herbicide applications farming activities and special construction projects

  • Conduct equipment and grounds maintenance (hand tools and small power tools irrigation pumps generators lawnmowers ATV/UTV work-vehicle and heavy machinery fluid changes and minor maintenance)

  • Provide customer service including wildlife area visitor outreach public education compliance OSP coordination

  • Assist wildlife district staff on population inventories and public outreach

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

Fish and Wildlife Technician ($3705 - $5066):

Option 1: Eighteen months of experience in the care of livestock agricultural research and experimentation monitoring game or wildlife or farming. (Six months of fisheries or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience).

Option 2: An Associates degree in Wildlife Technology or Agriculture

Equivalency Notes:

  • A higher level degree in Wildlife Science Agriculture or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associates degree.

Fish and Wildlife Technician Entry Option ($3429 - $4207):

Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications). Previous related experience is desirable.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience performing trail maintenance

  • Experience with farming activities and equipment.

  • Construction and/or carpentry experience

  • Experience working/communicating with the public

  • Heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience

  • Small engine operation and maintenance experience

  • Current Commercial Drivers License

  • Current ATV Safety Education Card

  • Public Pesticide Applicators License

  • Preparing oral and written reports

  • Navigational skills with the use of GPS devices digital and/or paper maps and compasses to navigate diverse terrain and record observations
