Under the direction of the Professional Practice Leader Music Therapy the Music Therapist:
- uses music as the primary modality to assess and treat patients
- serves as a resource to rehabilitation staff particularly in Extended Care
- collaborates with the interdisciplinary team
- performs related educational duties
- completes assigned administrative tasks
What You Bring
Education:
- Baccalaureate degree from a recognized Music Therapy program and one (1) year of recent related experience in an extended care setting or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Your Day to Day:
- Plans organizes implements modifies and evaluates music therapy programs to improve or maintain residents physical mental emotional and social functioning.
- Provides music therapy assessments and treatments using recognized techniques and practices; consults with the interdisciplinary team to recommend appropriate programs and coordinate therapeutic activities.
- Records maintains and updates resident documentation including assessments treatment notes and statistical data in accordance with departmental and facility policies.
- Participates in quality assurance activities by providing input to the Professional Practice Leader on procedures standards assessment forms resident materials and program descriptions.
- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of musical equipment and materials; ensures safe and appropriate use and makes recommendations regarding purchasing maintenance and repairs.
- Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences to provide information about resident status as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of music therapy developments through professional literature consultation and participation in approved educational programs.
- Participates in the orientation of staff students and volunteers and provides in-services as needed.
- Supports the music therapy student fieldwork program by providing supervision and instruction as required.
- Attends and contributes to regularly scheduled music therapy council meetings.
- Participates in and supports educational and research activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
