CBC Saskatchewan is looking for the next Host / Producer of CBC News Saskatchewan - our supper hour and late night news program. You will lead the editorial direction of the newscast and are responsible for the overall quality of the program. Working closely with the assignment desk you will strategically program strong visual treatments of the days most compelling storytelling. You will work with reporters and videographers helping them craft strong modular video treatments that can live online on social on FAST and on our supper hour program. As a key leader in the newsroom you will collaborate with other newsroom leaders to ensure our audiences receive the show they deserve.
You thrive in the fast-paced high-pressure world of a multi-platform newsroom. You are just as comfortable working to the tight deadlines of our multiple daily news video deliveries as you are with deliverables on a longer timeline. And you are just as comfortable collaborating with colleagues as you are focusing on independent work.
You have an eclectic range of interests -- from politics to social issues to business pop culture science and environment and everything in between.
You are comfortable going on the air live at any time reacting to breaking news and changing events updating and remaking content as needed.
You understand how a wide range of video storytelling formats is key to providing the audience with the diversity of news content they are looking for. You are enthusiastic about experimenting with video formats and arent afraid to take risks.
You understand the diverse and changing population of Saskatchewan and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You appreciate the range of perspectives that people hold and believe in the importance of giving voice to those perspectives.
You demonstrate and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.
You will uphold all CBC journalistic standards and ensure that our stories are fair balanced accurate impartial and told with integrity.
You will play a key role in helping us connect with and grow new audiences through public events and community engagement.

Key Tasks:
Perform a variety of tasks associated with the gathering preparation and on-air presentation of program material on video radio digital and social.
Develop original stories and concepts and work collaboratively to produce them.
Write scripts
Edit video
Produce develop and implement show ideas and concepts. Participate in the preparation of show objectives.
Develop the show content including assigning researching gathering writing and/or editing. Prepare scripts. Help determine the style pace tempo line-up and format of the show.
Plan organize and coordinate the show or the components and/or segments of a show.
As required perform the following tasks:
Direct on air talent sound and/or image.
Select re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others.
Determine the order and importance of various elements of a show.
Ensure in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the show.
Assign coordinate and supervise the work of personnel who contribute to the program or segment for which the producer is responsible.
Identify develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment.
Edit and mix or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
Coordinate repackaging of video content for the web.
Build relationships with a diverse cross-section of community leaders to enhance our understanding of the province and to increase the range of voices and perspectives.
Participate in public events representing CBC.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Excellent reporting interviewing writing and video presentation skills..
An understanding of local journalism and the tools needed to produce it.
Comfortable working in a small team environment. Great interpersonal skills and a team player.
Solid journalistic skills and familiarity with CBC standards and practices.
A commitment to producing journalism for audiences that are often underserved and/or underrepresented.
Able to work in a team setting under tight deadlines.
Ability to think critically and the ability to apply critical thinking to local news stories.
Requires a superior level of technical knowledge and understanding of television program production and post-production methods.
Must have a strong sense of creative judgement initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production service.
Strong visual storytelling skills and experience giving stories different visual treatments.
Excellent writing skills.
Able to keep track of a number of simultaneous activities and prioritize and plan.
Able to analyze complex journalistic issues.
Able to make decisions quickly and under pressure.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Able to communicate both verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
Able to work weekends holidays as and when required.
Creativity and a love of the craft of video journalism.
Job requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience
Job requires a university degree or equivalent.
