Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) enforces the NSW water laws and offers guidance and education to help water users comply. We strive to be an efficient and effective regulator that celebrates and reflects the diversity of the community we serve. Working with NRAR provides a chance to make sure water is used lawfully so that all communities and the environment get a fair share.

NRAR is seeking to appoint a Lead Data Engineer in an ongoing capacity.

About You

Uplift data and analytics capability across the organisation integrating diverse data sets into cohesive and functional analytics platforms and improving data quality and accessibility for stakeholders. This will be achieved by utilising contemporary technologies like data lakes AI Machine Learning analytics and reporting. The Lead Data Engineer will collaborate closely with NRARs business units and functions to understand capture design and build capabilities in support of NRARs data initiatives.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Lead the design and delivery of NRARs enterprise data strategy ensuring seamless integration of complex datasets to support analytics reporting and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Oversee enterprise data architecture governance and pipeline development to deliver scalable secure and high-performing data solutions across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Drive optimisation and automation of data systems embedding innovation efficiency and continuous improvement across data engineering and analytics functions.
  • Partner with senior leaders to shape strategic data policies frameworks and investments that advance NRARs digital transformation agenda.
  • Build organisational capability to treat data as a strategic asset maximising its value and impact through high-quality analytics and insight delivery.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively with vendors and other project members
  • Experience with Oracle SQL Server Azure Data Platform (Data Factory Data Lake SQL Database)
  • Previous experience in Microsoft Fabric (preferred)
  • Experience in Machine Learning modelling
  • Experience in Azure Data Modelling and Tabular Modelling
  • Experience in supporting workshops for data use cases and requirements gathering with business stakeholders
  • Experience with data platform implementations and ideally an awareness of technical task estimations and processes.
  • Additional skills and experience with ETL Python or other programming languages
