Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming a critical component in the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy grid. As the UK accelerates its deployment of renewable energy and grid modernization there is a growing opportunity for Hitachi Energy to support the distribution and transmission of electricity through BESS-related projects.

This internship project aims to assess the current market landscape and develop a strategic proposal for how Hitachi Energy can enhance its market presence and value proposition in this space.

Objectives Market Review

• Analyse the current state of BESS deployment in the UK with a focus on distribution and transmission infrastructure.
• Identify key stakeholders market drivers regulatory frameworks and competitive landscape.
• Review existing Hitachi Energy capabilities and offerings relevant to BESS.

Opportunity Assessment

• Map out potential customer segments (e.g. DNOs TSOs developers EPCs).
• Identify gaps and opportunities in the current go-to-market approach.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and trends influencing BESS integration.

Strategic Proposal

• Draft a go-to-market strategy tailored to the UK BESS market.
• Recommend positioning partnerships and value propositions.
• Suggest implementation steps including marketing sales enablement and stakeholder engagement.

Skills & Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Business Engineering Energy Systems or related field.
