Human Resource Generalist

The Arc of King County serves all people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) across the lifespan from prenatal diagnosis through end-of-life care.

Our programs include:

  • Information and Family Support for individuals with IDD their family members and community;
  • Supported Living Services for adults living in the community; and
  • Public Policy and Civic Engagement for people who want to ensure communities and public services work for people with IDD

The Human Resource Generalist is a vital point of contact for employees at all levels. Responsible supporting daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) Department in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources including onboarding interviewing administering pay benefits leave and educating employees related to company policies and practices.

Organizational Reporting Relationships

Department: Human Resources

Supervisor: Director of Human Resources

Essential Functions

  • Assist in employee recruitment including: Screen resumes/application forms phone screen employee candidates schedule employee candidate interviews call employee candidate references.
  • Responsible for supporting under the direction of the Director of Human resources with employee coaching and corrective action.
  • Assist in new hire onboarding including: collection of new hire paperwork creation and maintenance of employee files in Human Resources Information System (HRIS) database electronic files and paper files saving documents in employee files add new staff to payroll system and benefits platforms.
  • Responsible for timely processing of employee status change forms and saving copies of status changes to employee files independently.
  • Provide support to employees for benefit enrollments. Including answering benefits questions.
  • Provide support in updating benefits eligibility changes in a timely fashion across all systems.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of all benefits invoices including auditing benefit deductions in payroll vs benefits platform independently.
  • Responsible for pulling reports from payroll system for various reconciliation tasks.
  • Assist in ensuring I-9 compliance.
  • Help as needed with Payroll processing and support.
  • Help staff with access and navigation questions for the HRIS system.
  • Provide support to leadership and employees with annual performance reviews.
  • Support overall leave administration.
  • Assist in maintaining DSHS Background Checks including:
    • Maintenance of records
    • Coordinating to runDSHS background checks upon hire and prior to expiration.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g. computer printer copier telephone).
  • Ability maintain prolonged attention in an open office environment.
  • Ability to frequently interpret data
  • Ability to work Monday Friday from 8:30 AM 5:00 PM in office unless otherwise pre-approved by supervisor.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing walking bending or reaching as needed.
  • Visual acuity to read documents spreadsheets and computer screens.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g. office supplies files).
  • Ability to occasionally report to other locations within King County Washington.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person over the phone and via email..

Salary /Benefits

  • The Human Resource Generalist is a full-time; exempt position
  • Pay Scale for this position is $79935 - $88000 per year (depending on experience).

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in the field of Human Resources strongly preferred.

Any combination of education experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3 years of generalized HR work experience
  • HR professional certification preferred.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Teams Outlook Word and Excel as well as general knowledge of databases and information systems.
  • Knowledge of Employment law and human resources practices.
  • Experience with Paycom HRIS preferred but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Adept at handling frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent communication skills in person phone and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic ethnic and social backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on and learn new tasks.
