Position Summary
The Higher Education Legal Fellow engages in a wide-ranging practice within the Office of University Counsel ( OUC ). Reporting to a Senior University Counsel the Legal Fellow is exposed to a variety of legal issues pertinent to colleges and universities. Areas of practice include constitutional law employment business operations and transactions health care law student matters administrative law intellectual property regulatory matters affiliation agreements and general litigation support. This position will work closely with OUC attorneys who support the Universitys Development Office and will focus on matters involving nonprofit law philanthropy giving arrangements and Associated Entities among other transactional issues. With the supervision of OUC Legal Fellows provide legal research advise on various legal issues attend client meetings conduct interviews attend board meetings draft contracts and other legal documents review University policies review discovery documents conduct training for employees participate in EEOC and OCR responses and faculty hearing preparation and proceedings as well as other advocacy and litigation responses and appearances as appropriate. A law degree from an accredited school. Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina or plan to be licensed within 6 months.

Effective team member; aptitude for building positive working relationships at all levels. Ability to juggle shifting priorities and multiple projects; excellent follow-through.
