The Public Works Department is actively seeking one (1) Plumber.

This is skilled craft work in the installation maintenance and repair of plumbing and heating equipment. Work requires knowledge of techniques methods and procedures used in the plumbing trade which involves the use of specialized skills or specialized equipment which is acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. Contacts require basic courtesy tact and effectiveness in dealing with others including contacts to request or provide information ask questions or obtain clarification. The work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and because of the changing priorities or different situation incumbents have the latitude to consider which of the many procedures or standards should be followed and in what sequence. The work is performed in a somewhat uncontrolled environment where risks and hazards are substantial but are known somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates hand and power tools soldering equipment; plumbing and motor vehicles including one-half and one-ton trucks and vans. The physical demands consist of walking standing sitting bending climbing ladders and occasionally moving and lifting equipment such as pumps valves or other parts weighing more than fifty (50) pounds. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and although subject to standard practices and procedures the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to superiors approval.

  • Repairs plumbing and heating equipment.
  • Prepares sketches for new plumbing and heating systems.
  • Installs new plumbing equipment.
  • Tests joints and pipe systems for leaks
  • Installs plumbing and sanitary fixtures.
  • Repairs air water and waste disposal systems.
  • Cuts openings in walls for pipes.
  • Replaces washers on leaky faucets.
  • Ensures that appropriate permitting is obtained for new installations.
  • Checks repairs and replaces high- and low-pressure steam boilers.
  • Checks safety devices and controls.
  • Flushes and cleans boilers storage and return tanks and hot water heaters.
  • Prepares estimates of time and materials.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonvilles competencies.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of techniques methods and procedures used in plumbing and heating.
  • Knowledge of equipment materials and tools used in plumbing and heating.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in the use and care of materials tools and equipment used in plumbing and heating.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • Four (4) years of educationand/orexperience in plumbing.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  • Must possess a Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman or Master Plumber issued by the City of Jacksonville and/or comparable State of Florida license and must maintain the same during employment in this class.

  • A valid drivers license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

  • Must qualify for prior to appointment obtain and maintain during employment a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • The probationary period for this class is six (6) months.

  • Depending upon assignment must pass the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening performed by the Jacksonville Sherriffs Office prior to appointment.

    • If assigned to JSO this includes a polygraph.

  • Within thirty (30) days of appointment date to classification acquire and maintain the appropriate level of Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification which corresponds to the job responsibilities.

  • The level will be determined by current CJIS guidelines and may change periodically.

  • Certification is obtained by successfully completing a web-based training course and test which covers physical security incident response the protection of information and other IT specific security threats vulnerabilities and risks.

  • Depending upon assignment may be required to obtain specialized certifications.

  • This position performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonvilles Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
