Job Summary

One of the Asia-Pacifics leading music and performing arts schools Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) offers a comprehensive suite of professionally-oriented and community-resonant opportunities and qualifications in music and performing arts. Its current fields of focus are music (performance contemporary creative practices research & leadership production & entrepreneurship) and acting with programs embracing community stakeholders from early childhood to senior citizenship including a comprehensive suite of full-time tertiary programs relevant for 800 students.  

QCGU is seeking an experienced Lecturer (Level B) to support high-quality teaching and to carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly and/or professional activities in the Upper Brass area.  On offer is a fixed term (12 months) 50% part-time position.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach in individual and group settings (including lecture delivery and directing ensembles) and have the capacity to span a diversity of genres as part of their artistic identity. Aptitude that reaches into other areas of curriculum delivery and research would also be recognised as valuable.

This teaching focused position will commence before Trimester 1 2026 with the occupant required to undertake full academic responsibilities and related administration for the coordination of courses programs and associated student activities including regular use of University IT systems to do so.

On campus face-to-face teaching is required and work patterns for part-time positions are expected to reflect the teaching requirements of the role.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Foster an outstanding student experience and encourage active participation and engagement in learning and teaching across the spectrum of the Universitys undergraduate and postgraduate program suite facilitating high quality student-centred learning activities.
  • Support high quality learning and teaching outcomes for students evidenced by technology enhanced learning problem oriented authentic learning and assessment practices.
  • Support a student-centred service culture and establishment of positive respectful and supportive relationships between staff and students.
  • Promote and enhance student learning experiences through engagement with industry and broader community to develop work integrated learning opportunities and support employability initiatives.

This position is primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane City (South Bank) Queensland Conservatorium. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith Universitys campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul Yuggera Jagera Turrbal Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The full-time equivalent (FTE) base salary for a Lecturer (Level B) in the range $113226 - $134460 per annum 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $132474 - $157318 per annum.


Qualifications :

The successful candidate will hold:

  • A doctoral or masters qualification or
  • Equivalent accreditation and standing with 6 years of experience and/or
  • Significant progress towards completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or field.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching and to engage students effectively
  • Proven ability to develop and implement innovative curriculum and teaching materials
  • Demonstrated experience in providing academic support and mentoring to students
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement in scholarly activities relevant to teaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to interdisciplinary projects
  • A well-established artistic identity which embraces a diversity of communities performative contexts and musical genres. 
  • Commitment to making music in Queensland matter both state-wide and as a pivot-point and partner in a region that embraces Australasia Oceania and East South and Southeast Asia. 
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate people to be as engaged with music as they are able both individually and collectively. 
  • In line with the Conservatoriums strategic drive to increase inclusion and equity identified expertise that speaks to encouraging and supporting students of different abilities or of diverse cultural backgrounds particularly First Nations would also be advantageous.
