CLASS TITLE: SPEECH THERAPIST
BASIC FUNCTION: To help reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual students ability to derive full benefit from the districts educational program.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as a resource to school staffmembers in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language impaired children.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing describing referring and identifying suspected speech and language impairments.
- Provides a thorough assessment anddiagnosis of speech fluency voice and language impairments.
- Provides hearing screenings forspecified grade levels and referrals.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members.
- Keeps ongoing records for the individualstudent receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Maintains lists of referred screenedand eligible students.
- Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Is familiar with and incorporates the use of technology in daily tasks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-Certificate For Teaching Exceptional ChildrenCommunication Disorders
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
187 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board
