Job Summary

The position is based at the Institute of Cardiogenetics at the UKSH. The institute brings together experts in life science bioinformatics and cardiovascular medicine to advance the understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying heart disease and to translate these insights into clinical innovation. The work will be carried out within the framework of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK).

Join our team and support us from February 1 2026 as Head of the Research Group Integrative Biostatistics at the Institute of Cardiogenetics. The position is initially limited until December 31 2030.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific leadership and coordinate a team of bioinformaticians conducting advanced computational and genetic analyses.
  • Design implement and evaluate independent research projects in alignment with the institutes strategic objectives.
  • Drive the preparation of high-impact scientific publications acquisition of third-party funding and participation in interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Supervise and mentor PhD candidates and students fostering excellence in research and teaching.
  • Strengthen the institutes international research network particularly through engagement with the DZHK and the project Targeting Omics-Derived Inflammatory Candidates for Novel Atherosclerosis Therapy.

Your profile:

  • University degree in statistics public health and/or genetic epidemiology with strong expertise in statistical and bioinformatic analyses of human and experimental omics data.
  • Proven experience in developing and applying multi-omics and AI-integrated research strategies.
  • Strong publication record and demonstrated success in large-scale collaborative and translational research projects.
  • Excellent leadership project coordination and grant management skills including successful acquisition of national and EU research funding.
  • Outstanding communication and networking abilities with a commitment to mentoring early-career scientists and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
