Job Summary

The System Wide Radio (SWR) Supervisor will proactively oversee and support the assigned duties of the Radio Foreperson Maintenance Manager Engineers and Administrators. Under this management and supervision ensuring that the daily maintenance repair and inspections of the Radio System is maintained in an efficient effective and safe manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

Review the existing EDACS and/or the P25 Radio multi-site LMR system and assign necessary repairs and/ or recommend changes to ensure peak efficiency.
Ensure that the systems are monitored and evaluate the radio systems for trends of non-performance and the possible reasons for the lack of performance making recommendations on changes that would
return the LMR system to peak performance.
Evaluate the radio system failure and repair and create reports for trends and recommend changes to minimize trends.
Ensure that all Administrators and Technicians are troubleshooting any malfunctioning radio system equipment to sufficiently identify resolve and/ or repair malfunctions returning radio system equipment
to a pre-failure state of operation in the shortest amount of time possible.
Create update and / or review radio system procedures and documentation on an on-going basis.
Read schematics block diagrams and flow charts to maintain or repair all supported radio systems and equipment.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation.
Design test and implement radio system modifications document all changes and ensure modifications meet required MBTA rules and regulations where applicable.
Ensure and assign the Installation maintenance and repair of radio infrastructure including but not limited to repairing and/ or replacing radio related Windows and non-Windows based servers and
workstations network equipment and/ or other command and control infrastructure.
Ensure the examination testing cleaning and replacement of electronic parts wiring cable connectors surge protectors etc.
Oversee the parts inventory to ensure that it remains a current record of all parts and all parts used ordered or discarded.
Oversee the provision of end-users instruction in the proper operation of all supported radio system equipment.
Responsible for planning scheduling and supervising employees involved in preventative and corrective maintenance programs and related in-house radio system upgrade projects across the
system.
Make frequent inspections of all radio comm room facilities supervise cutovers final inspections and testing of all modified and new signal systems.
Assist in the preparation of the departments budget in accordance with established practices and procedures.
Coordinate training programs necessary for maintenance of radio system equipment.
Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Observe condition of equipment and work-in-progress and ensure the safe operation of all radio systems and equipment.
Document all established preventative maintenance procedures (PMP)
Maintain all procedures reports and records for safety audits by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU)
Respond to each inquiry whether from a customer vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
Additional shift coverage during emergencies is required.
Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Supervision

This job will oversee Forepersons and Radio Technicians


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Five (5) years of proven success in daily maintenance repair and inspections of the Radio System .
One (1) year of supervisory managerial and/or leadership experience.
Experience troubleshooting maintaining repairing and upgrading P25 and EDACS LMR systems.
Experience in development and maintenance of SOP documentation.
Ability to walk and stand on track ballast.
Must have proven knowledge of Radio Systems and infrastructure.
Demonstrated track record of success at delivering Radio Systems and Infrastructure upgrade and maintenance projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Outlook PowerPoint and Excel.
Excellent customer service skills.
The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
The ability to comprehend communicate and respond to instructions orders signs notices inquiries etc.
This job will require working on the ROW as a Supervisor with Radio Technicians as needed.
A valid drivers license.
Ability to comprehend communicate and respond to instructions orders signs notices inquiries etc.
Successful applicant must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.
Additional shift coverage during emergencies is required.

Preferred Experience and Skills
Valid Radiotelephone / Two-way Radio License.
FCC licensed

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution

Substitutions Include

A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one (1) year of experience.

  • Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op.
