Job Summary

**JOB SUMMARY**

The Radiation Therapist works with the Chief Radiation Therapist/Manager.

Their main job is to help the Radiation Oncologist during the simulation process give the right amount of radiation to patients and check how patients are doing and if they have any side effects. It is important to come to work regularly. They may also have other tasks as needed.

**SUPERVISOR**

- Chief Radiation Therapist/Manager

**SUPERVISES**

- No supervisory responsibilities.

**MAIN DUTIES**

- Use machines for radiation therapy and follow warm-up procedures.

- Make sure the machines are working well by doing daily checks.

- Give the right amount of radiation to patients and keep record of their treatments.

- Monitor patients throughout their treatment to see how they are progressing and if they have side effects.

- Be flexible to handle different tasks and work shifts.

- Show responsibility by keeping licenses up to date attending all required training sessions and most staff meetings.

- Organize work well according to what the Radiation Oncology department needs and finish tasks on time. - Understand and carry out CT simulation processes.

- Perform any other tasks as needed.

**KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES**

- Know about the body how cancer treatments work radiation safety and the science behind radiation. - Understand how to carry out radiotherapy treatments including basic plan knowledge.

- Know how to perform CT simulations.

- Work well both alone and with a team.

- Have basic computer skills and use radiation oncology software.

- Provide good customer service. - Communicate well both in speaking and writing.

**EDUCATION** - Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Program.

**EXPERIENCE** - Preferably two years as a radiation therapist.

**CERTIFICATE/LICENSE**

- Must be AART registered.

- Keep a current Iowa Permit to Practice Radiation Therapy and complete 24 hours of education every two years.

- Current BCLS certification is required.
