Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets liabilities profit and loss tax liabilities and other related financial activities. The staff accountants responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports performing account reconciliations assisting with budget and close processes conducting internal audits and maintaining accounts payable documentation.
This individual should be able to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). An outstanding staff accountant should also have excellent communication organizational and analytical skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheets income statements and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Codes invoices sets up new accounts reconciles accounts and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly verifies deposits and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts payroll customer accounts and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Prepare and review financial documents reports and statements.
- Maintain financial reports records and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare journal entries analyses and accounting reconciliations and assist with monthly close processes.
- Contribute to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
- Maintain documentation for accounts payable purchasing and treasury and conduct internal audits.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Respond to information requests review financial statements and assist with audits.
- ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Preferred Degree: Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- Certificate(s) or License(s): CPA preferred
- Years of experience: 2 preferably with a retail company
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Strong working knowledge of Excel
- Ability to analyze financial statements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
- Good problem-solving skills and time management skills
- Ability to juggle multiple projects or tasks at once
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented

- Regularly performs computer work and sits.
- Occasionally walks and stands.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
- Performs tasks and duties under general supervision using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures policies and practices.
