Job Summary

Position Summary

The City of Brooklyn Park has collaborated with Best Buys Clubhouse Network to create a Teen Tech Center position. The position will supervise seasonal staff to operate it.

The Tech Center established with the support of The Clubhouse Network offers young people the opportunity to work on projects they find meaningful to their lives using computers and technology. The program provides support and resources for young people to pursue their interests and build upon their the Teen Tech Center youth can design their own music art newsletters robots science simulations computer games and animation.

This position offers a unique opportunity to blend quality youth work with technology focusing on youth interests and helping turn those interests into potential career paths.

NOTE:
This is a grant-funded full-time benefited position through the Best Buy Foundation & The Clubhouse Network - Support Better Futures for Teens grant. Grant funding is secured through the end of 2028 and continued funding through the City of Brooklyn Park.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help Teen Tech Center members develop projects (e.g. help them come up with ideas gather materials get started locate mentors to work with them and support their ongoing work).
  • Provide community outreach to involve a diverse group of young people parents teachers and community leaders in the program.
  • Recruit train and support seasonal staff volunteer mentors ensuring they work effectively with youth.
  • Support youth in computer maintenance including file management trouble shooting and technical support to Teen Tech Center youth utilizing Best Buy curriculum.
  • Support youth in planning for the future including pursuing academic and job opportunities that leverage their Teen Tech Center experience.
  • Support other programs and activities of the Zanewood Teen Center with Teen Tech Center expertise and resources.
  • Provide administrative support for the Clubhouse program including keeping records of participants and keeping the Tech Center space organized.
  • Participate in The Clubhouse Network attending Network meetings including one on one meetings with Program Officer sharing ideas and issues and supporting collaborative projects across sites.
  • Assist in fund-raising and publicity for the Best Buy Tech Center communicating the Clubhouse learning philosophy goals and results to external sources.
  • Leverage Best Buy National Partner relationships to expose members to skill development and media training.
  • Participates in Best Buy Network calls or virtual meetings conferences the regional workshops and professional opportunities by Best Buy.
  • Provides special communications to any events staffing changes or other relevant information impacting the operation of the Tech Center to their Best Buy Territory Relationship Manager.
  • Collect maintain and report data required with website promotion.
  • Work closely with the local Best Buy store to recruit Geek Squad Agents and Blue Shirt volunteers and host opportunities for local Best Buy employee volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education
Associates degree in computer science information technology or at least two years of formal technology training.

Experience
Three (3) years of related experience.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid drivers license.
  • CPR/First Aid within 6 months of hire.
  • Best Buy training within 1 year of hire.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • CompTIA A certification.
  • Previous experience working with youth and teens.
  • Experience working in a recreation facility or a school setting.
  • Three or more years of community outreach experience.
  • Experience with fundraising and public speaking.
  • Previous experience overseeing seasonal staff.
  • Experience working with people from various cultural socioeconomic racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Fluency in Spanish Hmong Russian Somali Lao or Vietnamese language(s).

  • Core business hours are set by departments based on operational needs. Alternative schedules can be arranged but must comply with the Citys Alternative Work Arrangement policy.
  • This is a full-time non-exempt position subject to a flexible schedule that includes a standard 8-hour work-day and will include daytime evening and weekend hours generally Monday through Friday. This position will include weekends and will require some select holidays and travel.
  • Office environment and site environment; exposure to computer screens working closely with others frequent interruptions sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time general manual dexterity adequate hearing vision and speech required.
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to move bend stand walk kneel and lift; general manual dexterity; adequate hearing vision and speech required.
  • Ability to operate technology equipment.
  • Ability to observe general surroundings and activities.
  • Ability to lift 10-50 pounds and the ability to occasionally lift 60 pounds.
