The ATS Test Division specializes in developing custom in-process and End-of-Line Test Systems to meet and exceed the customers needs. We are part of the Industrial Automation group with a strong focus on EV products including battery cell module and pack leak and functional testing but also serve other industries including the Life Sciences group Aerospace Industry traditional automotive specialty products and the growing Fuel Cell market.

ATS Test provides PC based solutions for complex test systems that need high accuracy high data collection and advanced analysis. Our core competencies include electrical functional testing electro-mechanical testing and pneumatic and hydraulic leak and flow testing.

Major Duties

As a Junior Mechanical Designer you will support the design and development of mechanical test systems and components under supervision assist in producing drawings and documentation collaborate with internal teams and vendors and follow safety quality and documentation standards. You will be assisting in creating and implementating mechanical test systems and components for our customers across industries.

In this role you will collaborate with engineers programmers and fabricators to bring test systems from concept to full integration and commissioning. Youll apply your technical expertise and problem-solving skills to tackle complex challenges assisting to deliver reliable precise systems in some of the most regulated and demanding environments.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform basic engineering calculations related to mechanical design (e.g. strength pressure force).
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to support design development.
  • Assist in evaluating feasibility of machine operations and sequences.
  • Create working and detail drawings and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards (e.g. OSHA CE customer-specific).
  • Review drawings for accuracy and appropriate material selection.
  • Liaise with internal technical staff and vendors for specifications and support.
  • Communicate design changes and task progress to the Manager or supervising designer.
  • Formalize and update drawing documentation.
  • Create drawings of existing tooling using precision measuring devices.
  • Collaborate with fabricators machinists toolmakers and electricians to resolve issues.
  • May assist in preparing customer documentation.
  • Use required protective equipment and attend necessary training.
  • Adhere to ISO procedures and the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Follow health safety and environmental procedures including reporting unsafe conditions and incidents.

Qualifications

Education

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Experience

  • 0 2 years of mechanical design experience preferred.

Skills

  • Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of drafting principles.
  • Ability to design tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Understanding of pneumatics hydraulics and basic electrical devices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to take direction and learn.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures and safety standards.

  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts defect in any equipment or protective device and any accidents/incidents to the supervisor
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for assigned tasks
  • Attend all required health safety and environmental training
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents where applicable
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank contest feat of strength unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
