The Department of Mining Engineering College of Mines and Earth Sciences at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor position. A Ph.D. in mining engineering or a closely related field is required and candidates with a wide range of expertise will be considered. Review of applications will begin July 2023 and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The Department of Mining Engineering seeks to lead research in the field of mining/mineral engineering to extend the limits of innovation in natural resource industries and educate and uplift a new generation of mining engineers with strong technical skills who will be leaders in safety and environmental stewardship. The successful candidate will be committed to developing a sustainable externally funded research program innovative and effective teaching mentoring students including students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds and contributing to scholarly activities including academic public service and student recruitment. The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City and is an established Tier-1 research institution a member of the PAC -12 and the prestigious Association of American Universities. Located in a metropolitan area with a population of approximately 1.3 million residents it includes a major international airport with direct flights to many U.S. and international destinations. The area has extensive arts cultural and recreational activities highlighted by five national parks a growing foodie culture downtown renewal and increasing diversity.
