About the Role
As a Radiation Protection Consultant youll play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe compliant and efficient coordination of radiographic activities on one of the UKs largest and most complex infrastructure projects.
Youll act as the key interface between radiography service providers installation contractors and project stakeholders ensuring all radiography is planned authorised and executed in full alignment with safety quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate radiography activities and interfaces between service providers and contractors to ensure safe and timely delivery.
Manage radiographic film storage and support digitisation strategies for key component records.
Champion non-radiological testing technologies to achieve ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) standards.
Collaborate with Radiography SMEs and RPA bodies to review and approve ALARP justifications for innovative testing techniques.
Conduct on-site safety monitoring ensuring radiographic activities align with approved barrier plans.
Track and analyse KPI performance identifying trends risks and opportunities for improvement.
Work closely with Health & Safety Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure full technical and legal compliance.
Provide expert input into radiography strategy risk management and assurance processes
Qualifications :
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
PCN or equivalent ISO 9712 / ASME Level 2 Radiographer (current preferred; lapsed accepted).
Trained and previously appointed Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS).
Strong understanding of IRR2017 CDM Regulations 2015 and Nuclear Site Licence conditions.
Experience working on large construction nuclear or industrial sites with open-site radiography.
Practical knowledge of radiographic barrier plans and coordination of field operations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Familiarity with national and international HSE standards.
Desirable:
Additional NDT qualifications (e.g. Ultrasonic or Surface Inspection).
Experience managing radiography activities within nuclear or defence projects.
Strong understanding of non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies and standards.
Track record of implementing performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
