The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canadas largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital as well as one of the worlds leading research centres in the area of addiction and mental health. CAMH combines clinical care research education policy development and health promotion to transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addictions. CAMHs Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute (CFMHRI) is home to scientists staff and research trainees conducting research to improve the understanding of the brain and the causes and biomarkers of mental illness as well as making advances in prevention and treatment for mental illness and addictions across the lifespan.

CAMHs Brain Health Imaging Centre (BHIC) is a world leader in clinical brain imaging including positron emission tomography (PET) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) preclinical imaging digital autoradiography and radiochemistry production. The Centres mission is to advance the understanding of brain health and mental well-being through cutting-edge imaging technologies with a commitment to conducting innovative research providing exceptional patient care and fostering collaboration within the scientific and medical communities.

The Brain Body and Perception (BBP) Research Program is dedicated to clinical neuroscience research studies to understand relationships between brain functioning brain structure and behaviour in individuals with and without psychiatric disorders. The mission of the BBP Research Program is to advance the understanding of the brain behaviour and individuals experiences driving the development of innovative and effective treatments for those with mental illness. The BBP Research Program is seeking a full-time contract (12 months) Scientific Associate to provide expertise in brain imaging research assisting the Principal Investigator with research project responsibilities.

The successful applicant will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located onsite at 250 College Street Toronto Ontario with some occasional travel to 100 Stokes Street.

Reporting to the BBP Principal Investigator (PI) the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Study design activities including but not limited to grant writing and submissions study protocol design research ethics submission.
  • Funding applications including developing research funding proposals identifying suitable funding program(s) liaising with Research Operations Support and Services (ROSS) understanding sponsors guidelines and creating study timelines.
  • Financial monitoring and control of project expenditures in accordance with project budget ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of expenses.
  • Management of projects including coordinating research study activities creating and executing of work plans adapting to changes in need or timelines coordinating activities across multiple research studies.
  • Overseeing and/or executing study teams data collection and analysis on behalf of the PI and ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Preparing and writing content for publications and presentations and supporting knowledge translation and exchange activities.
  • Providing functional oversight (including training / mentoring) of staff including occasional direct supervision of staff and/or trainees and accountability for the quality and quantity of work by study personnel.
  • Supporting and participating in departmental and CAMH-wide quality improvement activities.

  • The successful applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in biological neuroscience computer science or related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant research experience post-training. Experience must encompass data collection and analysis and research publication in the applicable area of methodological expertise.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with analysis tools and methods e.g. Matlab Python and/or shell/bash scripting as well as experience conducting basic analyses using statistical packages such as SPSS or R.
  • Record of contributions to scientific publications.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues decision-makers and the scientific community.
  • Possess sound judgment excellent organizational communication (verbal/written) and strong analytical skills
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask and produce high-quality accurate work while meeting program deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team made up of individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience supervising and overseeing staff and trainees or other management experience
  • Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.

Please Note: This full-time contract (12 months)position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
