Job Summary

Applications for Substation Technician Apprentice in Electric Operations are being accepted through Monday November 24 2025. The objective of this position is to perform technical and semi-technical work involving the design construction operation and testing of equipment on BGMUs electrical system. As a 1st Year Substation Technician Apprentice the individual will enroll in TVPPAs Substation Program and will be required to complete mandatory training. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each of the following duties satisfactorily:

  • Completes all work assigned by foremen or supervisors.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of substations.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of SCADA system.
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of AMI Communication Network.
  • Repairs and tests distribution transformers.
  • Assists with the testing of substation equipment including high voltage work in and around the substations.
  • Services and repairs regulator and capacitor banks and equipment involved.
  • Learn safety techniques and skills of the trade from foremen.
  • Will be subject to on-call and emergency after-hours availability.
  • Work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or graduate equivalency.
  • Must complete ongoing training assignments advance in skill level and attain Journeyman Substation Technician status through TVPPAs apprenticeship program. Failure to attain Journeyman status will be ground for dismissal.
  • Ability to learn basis electrical theory familiarity with basis hand tools and the ability to learn to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of company policies safety rules and state/local laws pertaining to operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • CDL (Class A) is required within six (6) months of employment.
  • Ability to work during inclement weather. Some work after hours will be required.
  • Warren County residency is required within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience within the electrical field (installation construction or engineering).
  • CDL (Class A)
  • Graduate of a certified lineman training school.
