Job Summary

Summary

The role involves coordinating supervising and managing a team of professional officers to ensure effective operational work and performance. The position requires providing specialized technical advice enforcing trading standards and environmental health legislation conducting inspections and addressing complaints. Additionally the role supports the Team Manager in implementing service plans fulfilling statutory functions and promoting public protection. The position also involves educating the public and businesses on trading standards and environmental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of business premises to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Execute sampling programs for examination and analysis.
  • Investigate complaints accidents and disease outbreaks completing necessary reports.
  • Serve statutory notices to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Prepare and present reports to council committees and other audiences.
  • Gather and present evidence for legal proceedings and court appearances.
  • Stay informed on regulatory service work and legislative changes.
  • Maintain expertise in assigned environmental health/licensing areas.
  • Advise the public trade and businesses on public protection issues.
  • Oversee advisory services on planning applications and development control.
  • Develop initiatives and policies for service enhancement.
  • Promote public health and safety.
  • Manage a team to ensure customer-focused completion of work programs.
  • Analyze complex reports and advise on outcomes.
  • Attend meetings with partner agencies representing WRS interests.
  • Provide training to colleagues elected members the public and businesses.
  • Undertake work outside normal office hours as needed.
  • Act as a lead officer in a technical specialization.
  • Participate in out-of-hours emergency arrangements.
  • Recommend legal proceedings initiation to the team manager.
  • Assist in developing and executing service plans.
  • Prepare and manage specialist work projects involving other agencies.
  • Report on team performance at management meetings.
  • Deputize for the Team Manager and Leadership team when necessary.
  • Promote an intelligence-led approach to work allocation and resource deployment.
  • Collaborate with partners to achieve joint goals and cost-effective problem resolution.

Requirements



  • Proven experience in managing and supervising professional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of trading standards and environmental health legislation.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and enforce compliance.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience in legal proceedings and evidence preparation.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory services and legislative changes.
  • Strong analytical skills for complex report analysis.
  • Ability to provide training and education to various audiences.
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours and participate in emergency arrangements.
  • Leadership skills to deputize for senior management as needed.
  • Collaborative approach to working with partners for joint goals.
