Job Summary

Position Title: Building and Grounds Technician (Two Positions)

Department: WIT-Facilities Services

Advertised Pay: Base $15.02/hour with potential for a higher entry rate commensurate with experience

Campus Location:Washburn Tech

Position Summary:Perform multiple functions involving building maintenance cleaning and custodial services room set-up and arrangement and other miscellaneous activities relating to building and grounds operations.

Hiring for two positions with different work shifts:
2pm-10:30pm Monday to Friday at Washburn Tech 5724 SW Huntoon St.
6am-2:30pm Monday to Friday at Washburn Tech East 2014 SE Washington St.

Essential Functions:
Troubleshoot and repair plumbing electrical and HVAC systems as needed to restore function as service to malfunctioning mechanical systems at the Washburn Institute of Technology.
Consults with the Building/Grounds Maintenance Manager to determine and/or recommend when repair work needs to be completed by outside providers.
Vacuum dust and mop classrooms hallways offices meeting rooms dining rooms and other interior spaces using appropriate methods equipment and materials to clean and refresh assigned areas on a daily basis. Strip and wax floors shampoo carpets wash windows etc. as directed and/or needed to ensure the facility projects a clean and safe image.
Empty trash receptacles and remove trash; clean and sanitize restroom facilities and drinking fountains to promote healthful conditions.
Clear walks and pathways of trash dirt snow and ice to ensure the safety of individuals entering or leaving the facility.
Move and set up or tear down tables chairs and other furniture to prepare for or clean up after meetings. Move desks file cabinets and other office furniture and equipment as requested to facilitate cleaning office organization etc.
Replace soap paper towels and toilet tissue in restrooms.
Replace light bulbs in hallways and classrooms.
Mow grass and edge sidewalks using a push mower or riding mower.
Pick up items locally or from the surrounding area as assigned using a college vehicle.
Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma GED or equivalent.
Experience in custodial and/or maintenance services.
Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners scrubbing machines buffers and other janitorial equipment.
Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and others.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record under Washburns standards.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to move and maneuver objects weighing as much as 50 pounds.
Ability to work from a ladder or lift.
Capable of working in varied weather and temperature conditions.

Hourly Full-time
